THE H Daechi Edellui Tea House 'Atelier'
Hyundai E&C announced that it took home the winning award in the spatial category at Asia's premier design competition, the ASIA Design Prize 2026, for THE H Daechi Edellui Tea House and the HILLSTATE Geomdan Forest Children's Playground on January 27th.
The ASIA Design Prize is the continent's largest design award, drawing more than 1,500 submissions from 31 countries around the globe. Winners are selected through a comprehensive evaluation of aesthetics, originality, technical merit, sustainability, and other criteria across spatial, product, and communication categories. This latest accolade extends Hyundai E&C’s winning streak to five consecutive years, underscoring its enduring edge in the Asian design landscape.
The Atelier Tea House at THE H Daechi Edellui, a winner in the spatial category, serves as a community hub that elegantly captures the complex's stature and infuses everyday life with artistic flair. Drawing on the ‘Artists' Garden’ concept, it blends sculptural elegance with curated artworks, organic connections to the building's exterior, and thoughtful movement pathways that prioritize residents’ needs—all coming together to architecturally embody the essence of relaxation and connection. These elements earned the structure high marks from the judges.
The Welsh Corgi's Spring children's playground at HILLSTATE Geomdan Forest is a narrative-driven play area inspired by the joyful sight of a puppy bounding through a garden. It cleverly leverages the site's natural elevation changes with slides and hill-shaped features to encourage kids' physical activity in an organic way, while its soft, flowing forms harmonize beautifully with the surrounding environment—a standout aspect in the evaluations. Last year, Hyundai E&C saw eight of its projects receive awards at the USA Good Design Award 2025, primarily in the environment and sports and recreation categories, marking the highest number of wins among Korean construction firms.
In the environment category, five projects centered on apartment tea houses and leisure areas made the cut: ▲Olympic Park Foreon ARTE, ▲HILLSTATE Wonju Restige LINE SQUARE, ▲HILLSTATE Shinyong The River Gallery of Rest, ▲HILLSTATE Monteroy Flying Towards Freedom and ▲Olympic Park Foreon Beauty Upcycling Pergola. In the sports and recreation category, three playground installations were recognized: ▲HILLSTATE Macroen Tree Trunk Adventure, ▲HILLSTATE Wonju Restige Mega Pine Cone Tower and ▲Olympic Park Foreon Pine Cone on the Pine Forest.
A Hyundai E&C official stated, “The consecutive wins at international design awards are significant in that they represent international recognition of the spatial composition and design completeness of our leisure facilities and play spaces.” The official added, “We will continue to enhance the excellence of our residential spaces through community space designs that prioritize harmony with the residential environment.”
