Having achieved its best-ever order performance, Hyundai E&C continues its overwhelming growth momentum by expanding its presence in the global energy market in the New Year of the Fire Horse.
Hyundai E&C recently announced that, based on aggregated performance results for 2025, it recorded annual orders of KRW 25.5151 trillion (estimated). This performance represents an all-time high, a remarkable 39% increase from KRW 18.3111 trillion in 2024, making Hyundai E&C the first Korean construction company to exceed KRW 25 trillion in annual orders.
Analysis suggests that the company’s future-oriented strategy to transform the existing paradigm of the construction industry was instrumental in Hyundai E&C recording its best-ever performance since its founding. At the CEO Investor Day held last March, Hyundai E&C announced a goal to achieve over KRW 25 trillion in orders by 2030 along with a new vision of becoming an ‘Energy Transition Leader,’ but achieved that ambitious new goal ahead of schedule within the same year.
Last year, Hyundai E&C achieved remarkable results in the energy sector, including ▲a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) contract for the construction of four large-scale nuclear power plant reactors with Fermi America, ▲an Early Works Agreement for the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Finland, ▲a solar power project in Texas, and ▲the Sinan-Ui Offshore Wind Farm. The company led the change by focusing on entering advanced markets like the U.S. and Europe and securing low-carbon energy project orders against the backdrop of the energy transition trend. Additionally, by securing orders for Saudi transmission lines and major data centers in the Seoul metropolitan area, it widened its reach across the entire energy value chain, from production to transmission and consumption.
Non-competitive orders based on the company’s technological competitiveness and existing credibility also played a significant role in Hyundai E&C’s improved performance. The Iraq Water Infrastructure Project (WIP), which contributed over USD 3 billion to the company’s order book last year, was a feat based on the solid trust built by consistently taking part in Iraq’s national infrastructure-building projects for over 40 years. Technology-centric infrastructure projects like Suseok Bridge and the Busan-Jinhae New Port container terminal, large-scale complex development projects involving active participation from the early stages such as planning and investment, and the strategy of a dedicated funnel continuing from Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) to Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) were representative examples offering a glimpse into Hyundai E&C's shift towards prioritizing profitability.
In the housing sector, where competition among construction firms was more intense than ever, Hyundai E&C further solidified its status as the country’s leading provider. Last year, Hyundai E&C recorded annual orders of KRW 10.5105 trillion by successively securing construction contracts for major urban redevelopment projects such as Gaepo Jugong Complexes 6 & 7 and the Apgujeong District 2 Reconstruction Project. This marks the first time in Korea’s urban redevelopment history that the KRW 10 trillion order mark has been surpassed, as well as a monumental record of ranking first for seven consecutive years. This result was achieved by leveraging Hyundai E&C's brand premium and responding to changing customer needs with all-encompassing innovation in space utilization, technology, and customer service.
Hyundai E&C's achievements are expected to become even more tangible this year. The plan is to maximize growth momentum by focusing more on tried-and-true energy business lines while further strengthening the company’s entry into advanced markets where continuous growth is expected.
First, Hyundai E&C’s efforts across the energy value chain are expected to lead to meaningful results. Nuclear and renewable energy projects are expected to be promoted in earnest, including the large-scale Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant in Bulgaria, for which a design contract was signed in 2024; the Palisades SMR-300 being jointly developed with Holtec, which was recently finally selected for the SMR Funding Program organized by the U.S. Department of Energy; and offshore wind power projects for which power generation business rights have already been secured.
In the transmission sector category, the company plans to expand its entry into new markets such as Australia, where it has built strategic cooperative relationships, as well as its existing stronghold in Saudi Arabia. As for data centers, where it holds an undisputed No. 1 track record within Korea, Hyundai E&C plans to expand its business scope from development to operation and widen its stride overseas, starting with Japan.
The housing sector business plans to focus on securing orders along the Seoul Han River Belt, where steady business development is possible based on brand competitiveness and technological prowess, while expanding its reach overseas to further elevate the status of ‘K-Housing’ branding and development.
Hyundai E&C's shifting business direction was also reflected in its recent organizational reorganization. This initiative, focused on internalizing business lines and strengthening competitiveness, integrated the company’s architecture and housing, and safety and quality organizations to expand internal synergy. At the same time, it also formed dedicated teams for future core businesses to drive specific business growth in ▲Pumped Storage Hydroelectricity, ▲Offshore Wind, ▲Data Centers, ▲Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and ▲Hydrogen & Ammonia.
In addition, the company’s R&D organization was reorganized to speed up the commercialization of future technologies, and a foundation was laid to respond nimbly to the changing market environment through a shift to a site-focused organization.
Hyundai E&C also plans to establish a Work Innovation Center under the Strategic Planning Division and drive innovation in corporate culture and work methods utilizing artificial intelligence (AI), thereby embarking on a paradigm shift for the future of the construction industry as well as the company.
