Hyundai E&C has established a network of cooperation with local organizations and companies in Poland to establish a bridgehead for its entry into the nuclear power, new energy, and infrastructure sectors in Eastern Europe. As part of a joint public-private Korean delegation to the Krynica Economic Forum 2023, Poland, Hyundai E&C signed MOUs with the Polish Association of Construction Industry Employers, the National Centre for Nuclear Research, and leading local construction companies to lay the foundation for cooperation in building core infrastructure such as renewable energy, airports, and smart cities, including nuclear power projects.

On September 12 (local time), Hyundai E&C signed an MOU with the Polish Association of Construction Industry Employers (PZPB) for new nuclear power projects in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Hyundai E&C President Yoon Young-joon and PZPB Vice President Damian Kaźmierczak, as well as key officials from both companies. With this agreement, the two companies plan to seek active cooperation to develop new nuclear power projects through active exchanges of policy and industry trends, local information, and expertise related to construction in Poland.

On the same day, Hyundai E&C also signed an MOU with the National Center for Nuclear Research (NCBJ) on cooperation in nuclear power plant R&D and research reactors. Established in 1952, the NCBJ is Poland's largest nuclear research organization and conducts research in all areas of nuclear energy, including nuclear physics, radiological medicine, and materials. Under the agreement, the two companies agreed to establish an overall cooperation system for ▲ nuclear power R&D ▲ research reactors ▲ nuclear safety ▲ nuclear technology and people exchanges.

Hyundai E&C has proven its competitiveness as a global top-tier nuclear power company through the construction of the largest number of nuclear power plants in Korea and the first export of a large Korean nuclear power plant overseas. On this basis, the company is accelerating its efforts to become a “Total Nuclear Solution Provider” by establishing a management and response system across all areas of nuclear power, including SMRs, nuclear decommissioning, and temporary storage facilities for spent nuclear fuel, and solidifying strategic cooperation with global nuclear power players. In April, the company clinched an SMR project in Eastern Europe with its U.S. nuclear power partner Holtec, and then signed a tripartite cooperation agreement with Holtec and a Korean public financial institution as part of the Korea-U.S. Energy Partnership, establishing a multi-faceted support system and foundation for jointly exploring global nuclear power projects. 

Through the agreement, Hyundai E&C will lay the foundation for the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Poland, while signing business agreements with leading local construction companies ERBUD and UNIBEP for cooperation in the fields of renewable energy and infrastructure, and will continue to cooperate closely in the fields of new airports, urban infrastructure, and smart cities. Hyundai E&C will establish a local office to create a foundation for its expansion into Eastern Europe following the signing of a major partnership with Poland. The new local office in Warsaw, the capital of Poland, will serve as an entry point for the company's expansion into Eastern Europe, where it will quickly understand local developments and maintain close ties with local companies to secure new order opportunities.

An official from Hyundai E&C said, "Through this visit to Poland, we were able to see the potential for Poland's new economic leap forward, and we expect to contribute to the expansion of Poland's energy and infrastructure through increased interaction between the two countries,” adding that, "The visit has allowed Hyundai E&C to establish a cooperation system with major organizations and companies in Poland, through which we will strive to achieve tangible outcomes by strengthening partnerships in the private sector built on the strategic partnership between the two governments.”
