Hyundai E&C to build Korea’s first water electrolysis-based production base
One ton of hydrogen to be produced per day
Hyundai E&C has been selected for the water electrolysis-based hydrogen production project promoted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, contributing to creating a hydrogen society.
Hyundai E&C created a consortium with the local governments of Jeollabuk-do and Buan-gun, Jeonbuk Technopark and Techcross Water & Energy. The consortium will take the lead in establishing the infrastructure capable of producing, storing and transporting more than one ton of hydrogen on a daily basis. The project is designed to construct the country’s largest commercial clean hydrogen production base within the New and Renewable Energy Complex located in Jeollabuk-do, and the construction is slated to be completed in May 2024.
Hyundai E&C is responsible for the basic and detailed designs of the hydrogen production base involving water electrolysis facilities and shipping and electrical lead-in facilities; the construction of such facilities; and the procurement of key materials.
So-called clean hydrogen emits no or a significantly small amount of carbon dioxide during the hydrogen production process. Water electrolysis is a process of using electricity to decompose water into oxygen and hydrogen at a large scale, which is garnering attention as a key technology in producing clean hydrogen.
Orders for urban renewal projects reaching all-time high
Hyundai E&C is about to enter seven-trillion-won club in 1H
Hyundai E&C posted record-high cumulative orders three years in a row with the amount of orders received during the first half of this year exceeding that of the cumulative orders for the previous year.
Hyundai E&C has obtained the deal to redevelop Yimun Zone 4 in Yimun and Hwigyeong New Town, Seoul, on June 18, driving up the cumulative orders for this year’s domestic urban renewal projects to reach 5.6988 trillion won. This remarkable figure is almost four times higher compared to 1.2919 trillion won over the same period of the previous year.
Hyundai E&C is the only builder in the domestic construction market that set unparalleled records in urban renewal projects as the cumulative orders for this sector has reached five trillion won. This achievement is attributable to efforts to diversify our business, hire experts specialized in urban renewal and suggest customized designs and business conditions through thorough market analysis.
Korea’s first large-scale dioxin-contaminated soil purification completed
Hyundai E&C successfully purified dioxin-contaminated soil at a large scale for the first time in Korea.
Hyundai E&C completed the project aimed at purifying 11,031 square meters of dioxin-contaminated area at Camp Market, an installation of the US Army in Incheon, in two years and 11 months. The project was conducted in the middle of the densely populated residential district, which raised concerns over construction noise, safety-related issues, and release of dioxin from its purification process. To safely and effectively treat dioxin, classified as a class one carcinogen, our company used the in-pile thermal desorption(IPTD) and the thermal oxidation process.
Embarking on development of CO₂ capture and liquefaction technologies
Hyundai E&C has been selected as the leading research and development institution in charge of a national project of the Ministry of Science and ICT on carbon capture and utilization (CCU).
The project is aimed to optimize and demonstrate a hybrid CO₂ capture and liquefaction method for “blue hydrogen” production. The purpose of the project lies in the development of the capturing and utilizing process of over 100 tons of CO₂ on a daily basis.
Hyundai E&C will focus on developing low-energy technology capable of capturing and liquefying CO₂ at a purity rate of over 95 percent with a 90 percent recovery rate.
