Hyundai E&C develops eco-friendly construction materials

Hyundai E&C has obtained Green Certification for the “solidification technology using steel byproducts for soft ground treatment” in July.

Green Certification is a certificate system where the Korean government certifies technologies which use energy and resources in an effective way to minimize the emission of greenhouse gases and pollutants. The recently certified soft ground treatment technology is effective in the environment protection, the creation of added value through recycling of industrial byproducts, and the increase in technological competitiveness based on cost reduction. This is the seventh Green Certification for Hyundai E&C, which reaffirmed the excellence of our eco-friendly technology.

The “solidification technology using steel byproducts for soft ground treatment” was aimed to minimize the impacts of cement and other solidification materials used to strengthen the soft ground on the environment.

As the generally used solidification materials like cement can have negative effects on the environment when they contact the sea water, and their manufacturing process produces a large amount of Carbon dioxide, there has been a constant need for the development of environment-friendly construction materials. Hyundai E&C has successfully developed and commercialized the new technology by using the byproducts produced during the steel manufacturing process at Hyundai Steel as basic raw materials as well as cooperating with CMD Technology Group and Daewoong. Hyundai E&C will verify the new solidification technology at the Incheon New Port hinterland project and then gradually increase its application at other construction sites.

“We will take the lead in developing next-generation eco-friendly construction materials and improving our technological capability through continuous research,” said an official of Hyundai E&C.
