Q1. Please tell us about your job

I am working in the project support team of Mazan Gas Processing Plant in Saudi Arabia in budgeting and subcontracting operations The overseas project support involves planning the overall process of the project from the beginning to completion, managing the budget, subcontracting contracts, progress and complaints management, and settlement. While the project delivery team leads the process on site, the project support team plans and distributes funds for smooth construction progress. It is responsible for reviewing countermeasures to resolve major issues with clients, partners and related departments.

Q2. What competencies do you need most in your job?

My job requires meticulousness, responsibility, and the ability to reconcile differences through consultation with various stakeholders. As the project support work involves different deadlines, it is necessary to prioritize matters but not to lose sight of anything. Therefore, communication skills that can coordinate opinions with related departments and suppliers to come to a consensus based on meticulousness are paramount. In addition to daily work, it is also essential to support smooth construction delivery by resolving issues that arise from time to time in a timely and clear manner. Having spontaneity and a challenging attitude of being not afraid of the new will be very helpful in your work.

Q3. How did you prepare for joining the company?

During college years, I completed a plant training program, which allowed me to gain an early understanding of the industry's characteristics. I studied and organized the processes of project management and construction. Keeping consistent records of the basic stages of construction was extremely beneficial. I would also strongly recommend taking the time to thoroughly consider and explore the position you are applying for.

I would also recommend the experience of working synergistically with a diverse group of people to achieve a goal. Having worked on many team projects and internal and external activities helped me a lot. When you join a team, you have to set and pursue common goals with your coworkers. The results and experience gained from this experience played a big role in the interview process.

Q4. Is there a corporate culture or system at HDEC that you would like to share?

I would like to boast of a culture that generously supports the growth of junior employees. As Hyundai E&C has grown globally, I think it is a great opportunity for newcomers to learn from seniors who have accumulated extensive experience. In addition, junior employees have the opportunity to grow through listening to their opinions and generous advice. This corporate culture is a great source of strength for me to have a sense of belonging and enjoy my work.

Q5. Do you have any advice for juniors who want to work at HDEC?

I remember the first time I stepped into the airport in Saudi Arabia for my field assignment. I can still remember the emotions I felt between fear of an unfamiliar environment and the excitement of facing a new challenge. As I experienced working abroad, I found myself actually enjoying my work more and more.

I would say that instead of being afraid of challenges, don't lose your confidence and faith that you can do it. If you recognize who you are and work on your shortcomings one by one, opportunities will come naturally, and you will finally find yourself overachieving your goals. Keep moving forward and never stop looking for answers.
