Q1. Please tell us about your job.
In the SMR FOAK team, I am in charge of purchasing and quotations. SMR refers to a small nuclear reactor with an electric power output of 300 MW or less, and FOAK stands for "first of a kind", and is the preparation team for the launch of Hyundai E&C's first SMR. About 80 new SMR models are being developed worldwide, and there is fierce competition for market leadership.
I am involved with establishing procurement strategies for major equipment for SMRs and evaluating technical and commercial quotations with the design team. I also review major contract terms for each equipment and secure optimal competitiveness through cost analysis.

Q2. What competencies do you need most in your job?
The first is “understanding and expertise in SMR systems”. When negotiating with the design team for equipment purchase and quotation, there are many technical conversations that involve the major. It is possible to conduct competitive purchasing and quotation work only if the individual's major and understanding of SMR systems are in place.
The second is "foreign language proficiency'". SMR will introduce major equipment not only from Korean companies but also from global overseas companies.

Q3. How did you prepare for joining the company?
In college, I interned at a domestic construction company's overseas plant. I spent six months in the construction team of a thermal power plant in Saudi Arabia, where I was able to see and feel the realities of overseas sites by working alongside senior staff in construction procedures and dealing with clients. It was a great experience to acquire both technical and field work experience. In the interview, I was able to answer the questions based on specific examples, and it was successful. Therefore, it is very important to develop an interest in the company and an understanding of the work.

Q4. Is there a corporate culture or system at HDEC that you would like to share?
Hyundai E&C is a “platform for continued challenge and growth” that provides endless opportunities to develop yourself. I have experienced numerous challenges through various projects and have grown a lot in the process. In particular, working on overseas sites was a great experience and a turning point where I learned a lot from different cultures and work environments. I also felt a sense of national pride as I worked on the first nuclear power plant project in Korea to go global. This experience greatly enhanced my ability to perform my duties as a member of the SMR project kick-off preparation team.

Q5. Do you have any advice for juniors who want to work at HDEC?
I would say, "Dig into one well." Hyundai E&C provides many opportunities for those who are deeply immersed in one area of expertise and work hard. If you focus on one goal and work hard, it will pay off one day. If you grow your expertise and keep challenging yourself, you will be able to grow into a core talent of the company.
