Quality Management, Park Jin-seo

Q1. Please tell us about your job.

I am in charge of quality support and education planning for building and housing sites at the headquarters. From the beginning to the end of the project, I provide quality support and inspections on a timely basis to ensure successful completion of a construction. In the team, I manage, revise, and guide the in-house standards (specifications, construction manuals, etc.) for each construction type, and provide support when issues arise in the field. The training planning is about providing training on job duties, practices, and quality awareness for employees at the business division. In addition, various issues are announced on a weekly and monthly basis to help employees improve their construction and quality capabilities.

Q2. What competencies do you need most in your job?

I think communication, cooperation, and open-mindedness are the most essential. The construction industry is based on communication and cooperation with various stakeholders, and it is necessary to accept many opinions through open thinking and to achieve a common goal with a set decision. I am currently working in quality at the headquarters, and I am always open and interested in various cases in the field. Through communication and cooperation, I propose solutions to challenges faced at the sties and share best practices as company standards.

Q3. How did you prepare for joining the company?

My experience in various group activities have helped me set myself apart from others and unique. I highlighted my unique experiences such as being a member of a joint Korean-Japanese musical performance group and student council president in college. Even if your experience is not necessarily related to the construction industry, you can succeed in your job application if you emphasize your strengths that can be useful at workplace.

Q4. Is there a corporate culture or system at HDEC that you would like to share?

The first is an environment that values inclusion and diversity. The company creates an environment where talented people with diverse backgrounds and experiences can come together to present their creative and innovative ideas. Seniors wait patiently for juniors to grow, and strive to train them to become future talents, not just achievers of immediate results. The second is a “free environment for communication." There is an environment where seniors and juniors can feel free to share ideas and collaborate with one another without any limitations. Also, through various team activities and events, we are strengthening the bonds among our employees, which in turn leads to better performance.

Q5. Do you have any advice for juniors who want to work at HDEC?

I would say, “Challenge yourself to do anything, right now.” You have to know yourself well before you can let people know who you are. You may not be good enough right now. In the process of challenging yourself, you can see your passions, abilities, and potential for growth, recognize your shortcomings, and know where you stand. In the process of building self-awareness, you can also determine whether you are a good match for the kind of person the company is looking for in the construction industry. I believe that if I continue to challenge myself, I will one day become a part of Hyundai E&C and grow together with the company. See you all at Hyundai E&C.
